Public Meeting on Port of Palm Beach Expansion Plan
Tuesday, May 13, 1:30 pm
featuring Our United States Representative Lois Frankel and The US Army Corps of Engineers

Citizens, groups, and stakeholders will have a chance to voice their protest of the Proposed Port of Palm Beach expansion project to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at a meeting 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Palm Beach County Commission chambers.

They are trying to industrialize our marine park,  recreation area, and environmental habitat –Peanut Island, Lake Worth Lagoon and Inlet – by deepening and widening the inlet and Intracoastal so bigger ships, and more of them can go in and out of the port.

The expansion is expected to have a big negative impact on the environment and the local tourism industry.  Imagine trying to navigate your boat, kayak, standup board (SUP) or swim/dive, as 750 ft. ships are steaming  nearby.  In addition, storm surge during major storms and hurricanes is expected to increase flooding on properties around the Intracoastal.

The Town of Palm Beach and Civic Association will be there along with coalition partners around the Lake Worth Lagoon area.

The meeting will be at the Palm Beach County Governmental Center, 301 N. Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach.

Thank you to the over one hundred supporters who attended the Port meeting. There was overwhelming opposition to the project.  At this point we are confident that with continued pressure we can stop this project and protect the surrounding fragile ecosystem.
