Report from Rescue the Reef 2011

Rescue the Reef 2011 was a rousing success thanks to your efforts.

On Sunday, May 15th, Force-E dive shops hosted a Reef Rescue fundraiser featuring a two-tank afternoon dive and BBQ in celebration of our Florida reefs. In spite of a threatening weather forecast the skies cleared and the winds subsided, making for two great dives and hours of revelry at the after dive BBQ.

This was an event for divers and non-divers alike and we all had a great time. Reef Rescue demonstrated how to use GPS to track and plot dives, collect baseline data and document reef conditions. Thank you to South Florida Diving Headquarters, the dive boat captains and crew members for making the dives safe and enjoyable. Thank you to everyone who attended for showing your support and commitment to the protection of our threatened south Florida coral reefs.

The event was such a success the dive boats were sold out. So if you were not able to get onboard, Force-E is planning a second Reef Rescue benefit in June. Plans are still in the works but the scuttlebutt is it will be in the Lake Park/Riviera Beach area.  We will keep you updated. There will also be announcements on the Force-E Divers Facebook page, where you can go to see pictures of Sundays dive and BBQ.

Reef Rescue has also posted an online slide show of the event at:

and here is a video by Force-E’s Nikole Ordway:
